Introducing LEAF – the way forward for sustainable eating

Have you ever seen this logo on fruit, vegetables, meat or even flowers?

This is the LEAF Marque logo.  If you see it on produce, it means that it has been grown sustainably.

LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) is a charity, helping farmers to work in more environmentally friendly ways and giving you the choice to eat more sustainably produced food.

Are you wondering what sustainable farming is? LEAF provides a framework which allows farmers to produce our food with care for the environment and the countryside. Sustainable farming is all about producing more food with reduced inputs (particularly of fossil fuel based products) with due regard for the environment.

The LEAF Marque is only part of what we do at LEAF, we also run Open Farm Sunday (12th June 2011) and Let Nature Feed Your Senses, two great projects to get people out onto farms, learning about how their food is produced and what farmers do to care for our countryside.

Still the work doesn’t end there, we have: a network of Demonstration Farms all over the UK, open to other farmers and members of the public; the Green Box, a tool for farmers to monitor all aspects of their farm environment, from biodiversity to water management; and training throughout the year, helping to push agriculture towards a more sustainable future.

We’ve recently started venturing into social media, and we are keen to carry on! We have twitter, facebook and now a blog, so you know where to go to keep up with our activities. If that’s not your cup of tea then you can subscribe to our monthly EBrief.

We are a charity and we only exist because of the support from our members and supporters, who all benefit from the great services we offer. If you would like to support our work you can become a ‘friend of LEAF’ or make a donation (sign into ‘myLEAF’), we’d really appreciate any help you can give us.

Your support doesn’t have to involve money, the best thing you can do is to ask for LEAF Marque produce where it’s not being sold or buy it where it is. The LEAF Marque is there to help you live more sustainably, make the most of it!
