at hiSbe we think that putting happiness first is a route to a more fair, responsible and sustainable food industry.
so we consider the happiness of people, animals and the planet when it comes to sourcing our products.
for a happy community
Food that’s farmed or produced in your area is freshest and hasn’t had to travel so far.
Where possible and where the quality exists, we choose to source from producers/growers based locally.
Looking to Sussex-based suppliers first helps us provide a boost to the local economy and reduces unnecessary food miles.
It also means working more directly so we know exactly where and how the food has been produced.
for happy growing
Making the most of fruit and vegetables that are in season here means relying less on flying things in from abroad.
Growing foods out of their natural season often creates extra cost and is energy intensive.
We prioritise British produce that’s grown in season so we can bring you nature’s best while still offering great variety from season to season.
for a happy planet
Food is naturally more nutritious and healthy when it’s made using soil friendly farming methods that protect and help the earth rather than harming it.
We promote farming practices that protect nature, are GM-free and avoid unnecessary chemicals.
for happy farmers
Farmers and producers here and abroad need to get a fair deal and make a dignified living.
We consider the people behind the products when sourcing, we work directly with farmers and producers where possible and support fairer supply chains and fairly traded products.
for happy animals
Intensive factory farming produces cheap meat and dairy products with big knock on costs to the environment, animal welfare and our own health.
We source from local farms that prioritise welfare, don’t feed their animals growth hormones and unecessary antibiotics and don’t put their products through extra processing to bulk them out or alter appearance.
for happy seas
Certain fish stocks have been so intensively fished that they are becoming extinct, other types are discarded (thrown back in the sea dead) in their millions.
We ensure that our fish is sourced from sustainably managed stocks, is caught in a way that causes minimal damage to the marine environment and reduces the impact of discards.
for a happy environment
In the UK we throw away a third of the food we buy and so much packaging that we’re running out of landfill sites.
We reduce packaging and use compostable alternatives, and help you buy food in smaller quantities.
We also don’t throw away any food that can be eaten.
for happy bodies
It’s healthier and better value to buy fresh food instead of mass produced products with ingredients lists that look like a chemistry lesson, and that take loads of energy to produce.
We sell proper food with healthy ingredients that avoid unnecessary or harmful additives.
