She is an American attorney and jurist who has served as a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit since 2021.

She happens to be the first Black woman and the first former public defender to bear the title of Supreme Court Justice will be replacing 83-year-old Justice Stephen Breyer, who announced his retirement in January.
