Richard Engel (born September 16, 1973) is an American journalist and author who serves as NBC News’ chief foreign correspondent.
After serving as the network’s Middle East correspondent and Beirut bureau chief, he was promoted to that position on April 18, 2008.
Before joining NBC in May 2003, Engel worked as a freelance journalist in Baghdad for ABC News at the start of the 2003 Iraq war.
In 2004, Engel published A Fist in the Hornet’s Nest, a book about his experiences covering the Iraq War from Baghdad.
His most recent book, And Then All Hell Broke Loose, published in 2016, is about his two-decade career as a freelance reporter in the Middle East.
