A metal barrel holding the bones of a person slain almost four decades ago was discovered on the shores of Nevada’s Lake Mead on May 1, 2022.

Lieutenant Spencer stated that the police were attempting to identify the victim.

Investigators suspect the person died from a gunshot wound, he said in a statement on Tuesday.

The finding was made possible, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department by continuing drought in the area.

“It’s truly strange in the sense that if the water hadn’t retreated, we would never have located the corpse,” said Lt. Ray Spencer of the Police Department over the phone on Monday.

Lieutenant Spencer refused to reveal any information on the victim, including his or her age or gender.

Lieutenant Spencer added that experts from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, will assist them in identifying the remains and determining the age of the barrel’s metal.

Lieutenant Spencer stated that because the deceased was slain in the 1980s in a location near Las Vegas when mob-connected casinos dominated the Strip, detectives will absolutely not rule out that the death was Mafia-related.
