She was born on April 20, 1923, in Canton, Ohio, the United States to her parents  Mae Helen Gianfransisco and John Rizzo.

She was the only child of her parents who divorced when she was seven after her father abandoned the family when she was only five.

Mother Angelica was best known for being the founder of the international broadcast cable television network Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) and the radio network WEWN. EWTN became a voice for Catholics worldwide.
