He revealed his father’s health condition in an exclusive brief interview in September last year. For the first time in perhaps four years, Mike was absent from coaching his son in the Ryder Cup last year.

Apparently, prior to the tournament week, he had He has a blood clot in his lung (pulmonary embolism) and was unable to travel or do any vigorous activity for a month.

He initially mistook it for pleurisy. His wife Jani insisted he go to the hospital when the pain persists for some time. The pain persisted for several days, causing shortness of breath.
That’s when he was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Series of tests revealed nothing unusual, but a CT scan revealed the clot. Mike is currently fine and kicking.
