Kim Jong-hyun, also known as Jonghyun, was a South Korean singer-songwriter, record producer, radio personality, and novelist who worked for the SM Entertainment label.
For nine years, he was the primary vocalist of the South Korean boy band Shinee, recording twelve albums with the group in both Korean and Japanese.

Jonghyun was discovered unconscious in his rented residence by police and rescue personnel at about 6:10 p.m. The police announced that, at the request of Jonghyun’s family, no post-mortem will be performed, and that his death was ruled a potential suicide.
In a condition of cardiac arrest, he was rushed to Konkuk University Hospital. He was given CPR in an emergency.
He did not recover consciousness, however, and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:32 PM, at the age of 27.
Jonghyun remained musically active as the primary vocalist of Shinee and as a solo artist until his death from carbon monoxide poisoning on December 18, 2017.

Prior to his last’s release the album’s release, it was reported that all album revenues will be donated to Jonghyun’s mother and utilized to establish a charitable foundation. Jonghyun’s family created the Shiny Foundation in September 2018 to assist struggling young artists.
