Aaron Latham, the journalist, and screenwriter who wrote the stories that inspired John Travolta’s flicks Urban Cowboy and Perfect died on July 24, 2022.

He has worked for magazines such as The Washington Post, Esquire, The New York Times, and Rolling Stone. He was 78.

According to his wife, Latham died Saturday at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Pennsylvania after a fight with Parkinson’s disease.

She claimed that his health deteriorated when he was diagnosed with COVID-19 in 2020.

Urban Cowboy (1980) was inspired by Latham’s Esquire article on a romance between a mechanical bull rider and a lady at the Houston nightclub Gilley’s. In the film, the real-life couple played Travolta’s Bud and Debra Winger’s Sissy.
