He received his first Cy Young Award seven times while also being named the American League (AL) Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Roger Clemens announced his retirement before to the start of the 2003 season, which became effective at the end of the season. Clemens was prominently mentioned by former U.S. Senator George J. Mitchell’s report on steroid usage in baseball in December 2007.

Clemens was accused of using performance-enhancing drugs throughout the 1998, 2000, and 2001 baseball seasons, which he disputed.

Clemens suffered from shoulder difficulties in the latter parts of his career, but despite his age and the lowered velocity of his fastball, he remained a feared pitcher.
