Sonny Barger, founding member of the Oakland, California chapter of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club has passed away at the age of 83.

Sonny Barger was born Ralph Hubert Barger was born in Modesto, California on October 8, 1938.

When he was four months old, his mother abandoned him, leaving him and his older sister Shirley to be raised by their grandmother and alcoholic father.

Barger enlisted in the army when he was sixteen in 1955. He was given an honorable discharge fourteen months later when it was discovered that he had forged his birth certificate in order to join the army.

After he returned from the army, he lived with his father in a single residence at a hotel.  Later, he moved in with his sister and her children.

Barger does not have a brother, he only has an older sister.
