According to rumors, the Manchester City trio of Phil Foden, John Stones, and Ilkay Gundogan won’t travel to the United States for preseason with the rest of the team.

Before returning home to face Liverpool in the Community Shield at the end of July, the Premier League champions will play Mexican team Club America in Houston, Texas, on Thursday, and German powerhouse Bayern Munich in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the following Saturday.

Three of Pep Guardiola’s go-to players won’t be making the trip to England with their colleagues this weekend: playmaker Foden, defender Stones, and midfielder Gundogan.

The three players will instead travel to Europe with City’s Under-23s to continue their preseason training for the new season.

They have not provided an explanation for their absence.

The 31-year-old Algerian winger led the team in scoring last season with 24 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions.

He also contributed nine assists. Mahrez paid £60 million to move from Leicester to City in 2018, and his two-year deal keeps him at the Etihad Stadium through 2025.
