Roe v Wade.; the landmark decision that changed the lives of women in the United States. If you do not know about Roe v Wade, it allowed women to decide whether or not they wanted to have an abortion, without excessive government restriction.
That landmark decision is set to be overturned by the supreme court. This, of course, does not please many men and women alike.
Let’s take a look at the woman who was behind such a change.
Jane Roe cause of death
Jane Roe is a pseudonym. The plaintiff in the Roe v Wade case was born Norma Leah Nelson McCorvey.
Roe v Wade began after McCorvey got pregnant for the third time and sought an abortion. After she found out that the illegal abortion clinic she wanted to use was closed, she was referred to Henry McCluskey, an adoption lawyer in Dallas.
Eventually, she was referred to attorneys Linda Coffee and Sarah Weddington. Her case took three years to reach the supreme court and she never attended a single trial. During that time, she gave birth and gave the baby up for adoption.
Later in life, McCorvey made a U-turn and became an anti-abortion activist, claiming that her involvement in the case was the biggest mistake of her life.
She remained a part of anti-abortion demonstrations and even endorsed Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul because of his anti-abortion position.
However, during an interview shortly before her death, McCorvey made what she referred to as her “deathbed confession”. She said that she was paid to speak against abortion, and added that she continued to support abortion rights.
McCorvey passed away on February 18, 2017, in Katy, Texas from heart failure.
