Susan Collins, born December 7, 1952, is an American politician who is serving as the senior United States Senator from Maine.

As a member of the Republican party, she is Maine’s longest-serving member of Congress as she has held her seat since 1997.

Susan Collins is one of six children born to Patrica M. Collins and Donald F. Collins.

Their father was an American politician. He had three siblings including Samuel W. Collins Jr. He served five terms in the Maine Legislature and also served as the Mayor of Caribou. He passed away on March 10, 2018, at the age of 92.

Their mother served as the mayor of Caribou, Maine from 1981 to 1982.

Two of her brothers run S. W. Collins Company. The company is a fifth-generation lumber business founded by Donald Collins’ great great grandfather, Samuel Collins in 1844.
