Vasanne S. Tinsley was named interim superintendent by the DeKalb County Board of Education on Tuesday.

She is now the superintendent of a district with about 93,000 students and 15,500 personnel.

Cheryl Watson-Harris was fired by the board shortly before the announcement.

She’d only been superintendent of the state’s third-largest school district for a little more than two years.

Why was Cheryl Watson-Harris fired?

The state Department of Education was alerted by a video highlighting concerns at the school, and a facilities team was dispatched to assess the site.

Orson does not believe Watson-Harris was fired because of a disagreement over the school.
