Ncuti Gatwa gained prominence as Eric Effiong on the Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education (2019–present), for which he received a BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actor in Television and three BAFTA Television Awards nominations for Best Male Comedy Performance.

Gatwa was just named as the fourteenth version of the Doctor on the BBC program Doctor Who, making him the first Black actor to star in this series.
