During her Supreme Court confirmation hearings, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson stressed her family and faith as part of her introduction to Congress.

“I can honestly say that my life has been blessed beyond measure even previous to today,” Jackson remarked on Monday before thanking and loving various members of her family.

Jackson’s parents, Johnny and Ellery Brown, have been married for 54 years.

According to her White House biography, they were both born in Miami and nurtured in the Jim Crow South, attending segregated elementary schools before graduating from historically Black institutions and universities. They settled in Washington, D.C., where they both worked as public school teachers.
