Trey went to Gardendale High School, where he played golf.

He participated in college golf at the University of Alabama, where he was an All-American, won two tournaments, and helped the squad win the NCAA Championships in 2013 and 2014.

Mullinax became a professional in 2014, and since 2015, she has competed on the Web.com Tour.

The 2016 Rex Hospital Open was where he won his first Web.com Tour competition.

In March 2018, Mullinax qualified for the Valspar Championship on a Monday. After declining a free drop, he played one shot from within a hospitality tent and tied for eighth.
