Gisele Barreto Fetterman is a Brazilian-American activist, philanthropist, and nonprofit executive. She is the current Second Lady of Pennsylvania or SLOP as she prefers.
In addition, she is the founder of the non-profit Freestore 15104. She is also a co-founder of the non-profits For Good Pgh and 412 Food Rescue.
She was born in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. However, when she came to the United States at seven years old with her mother and brother, she was an undocumented child immigrant.
Her mother held a Ph.D. from a Brazilian university and had worked as a nutritionist and educator. She was forced to take cleaning jobs due to her undocumented status.
However, despite her rough beginnings, Fetterman received her green card in 2004 and in 2009, became a citizen of the United States.
Fetterman is married to the Lieutenant-Governor of Pennsylvania John Fetterman.
The couple met in 2007. Gisele wrote John, who was then the mayor of Braddock, a letter inquiring about the town’s role in the steel industry. They got married the following year.
The family opted not to live in the State House, which is the official residence for Pennsylvania’s Lieutenant Governor. Instead, they live in a converted car dealership.
Fetterman is estimated to be worth between $1 million to $5 million.
