Benedict McKenna is a singer, songwriter, music producer, and political activist born in Enfield, Greater London. He rose to prominence after winning the Glastonbury Festival’s Emerging Talent Competition in 2015. McKenna’s debut single, “Brazil,” was self-released in December 2014.

More than 40 record labels competed to sign him, but McKenna chose Columbia Records. On December 2, 2014, McKenna self-released his first single, “Brazil.” The song chastised FIFA for awarding the World Cup to Brazil while failing to address poverty. “Brazil” debuted at number one on Sirius XM Radio’s Alt 18 Countdown on January 23, 2016.

In November 2015, McKenna self-released his second single, “Paracetamol.” The five-and-a-half-minute song addressed media misrepresentation of transgender teenagers. In 2015, McKenna performed at a number of music festivals in England and Ireland. McKenna was named to BBC Music’s “Sound of 2017” list in late 2016.
