Naomi Judd, the mother of Wynonna and Ashley Judd and a member of the Grammy-winning duo The Judds, died at the age of 76.
Judd, a Grammy-nominated singer, and actress began her career as a nurse before joining the Judds, a mother-daughter duo.
Was Naomi Judd a professional nurse?
Naomi, a native of Kentucky, was working as a nurse when she and Wynonna began singing professionally together.
During the gala at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center in 2016, Naomi Judd joined the Texas Tech School of Nursing’s staff, faculty, alumni, and students.
For several years, Judd worked as a registered nurse in a Tennessee hospital’s intensive care unit.
She contracted hepatitis C from a used needle while working as a nurse and was told she only had three years to live.
What did she say about her nursing career?
She talked about her experiences as a nurse and entertainer, as well as her battle with hepatitis C, which she was diagnosed in the early 1990s.
“I used to be an ICU nurse. And I see you (nurses),” Judd said, dripping Southern charm and cracking jokes throughout the one-hour event. “I’m so happy to be here because you’re my people,” she said.
When Judd was told there was no cure for the disease, she felt like a “medical curse” had been placed on her.
