Fashion icon and Vogue’s former creative director Andre Leon Talley has passed away. He died on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at the age of 73.

Once the editor-at-large at Vogue, Talley played an instrumental role in the magazine’s vision and direction in the 1980s and 1990s.

He worked his way up the magazine ranks to eventually become the news director, which he helmed from 1983 to 1987, and then ascended to Vogue’s creative director in 1988.

He interviewed top Hollywood stars and numerous global stars before his death.

In 2021, he released a memoir dubbed The Chiffon Trenches.

Briefing his fans about his latest piece, he wrote in an Instagram post: “Manolo Blahnik and I were kindred spirits. Manolo Blahnik, the sum total of human genius in designing shoes for women, invited me to Fire Island one weekend.

“He arrived with matching sets of Vuitton cases, filled with matching sets of tone-on-tone Rive Gauche shirts and custom-made linen trousers. We went to a pool party where they spiked the punch with something, causing us to have non stop fits of laughter for nearly 14 hours.”

According to TMZ, Talley died at a hospital in White Plains, New York on Tuesday.

The cause of his death is currently unknown as his death was just announced. It’s also unclear exactly what he was battling in the hospital where he passed away.
