After a military tribunal in Burkina Faso convicted a former president, Blaise Compaoré, many breathed a huge of sigh of relief.
Others considered it a minimal punishment and opted for a harsher sentence for the past President of the land.
Mr. Compaoré, who now lives in exile in Ivory Coast declined to testify in the trial.
He was not present for the verdict either.
Blaise’s conviction marks the culmination of a long-awaited attempt to bring justice for the Sangare family.

Blaise Compaore is alive as of 2022.
He has however been given a life sentence or imprisonment after being found guilty with the murder of Thomas Sangare in 1987.
The trial also sentenced Hyacinthe Kafando, Mr. Compaoré’s former chief of security, and Gen. Gilbert Diendéré, a top army officer at the time of the killing, to life in prison.
