American award-winning actor William Hurt has died. He died on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at the age of 71.
Hurt was an Oscar-winning actor with a long tenure in Hollywood who studied at the Juilliard School and began acting on stage in the 1970s.
He made his film debut in 1980 as a troubled scientist in Ken Russell’s science-fiction feature Altered States, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for New Star of the Year.

According to one of his four children, Will, the legendary actor passed away one week before his death.
He told Deadline news outlet in a press statement: “It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar-winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday.”
“He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time.”

William Hurt is a cancer survivor. He was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer that spread to the bone. This was revealed in May 2018.
