According to Army officials, 20-year-old Army Pfc. Joseph A. Marquez of Dover, Delaware, was killed and two others were injured during a training exercise at the Yakima Training Center in Washington state.
From officials, the other two injured soldiers were treated and released from Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Their identities have not been revealed by the military.
Marquez enlisted in the Army in 2021. The Delaware native was a motor transport operator in the 1st Cavalry Regiment’s 8th Squadron.
A news release from the infantry division reveal Marquez was a member of the 7th Infantry Division’s 2-2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in western Washington.
Marquez’s death comes on the heels of several recent fatal training incidents. Army Spc. Joseph M. Meitl, Jr., 23, died in March while training at a National Training Center in California.
Kyle Mullen another military personnel died in February after completing what officials called hell week during an underwater demolition class near San Diego, California.
