American professional basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury of the Women’s National Basketball Association, Brittney Griner has been sentenced to nine years in prison in Russia for sending cannabis vape pens into the country. She was arrested at Moscow Airport in February and was found guilty of drug smuggling on Thursday, August 4, 2022.

In an interview with SI.com in 2013, Griner publicly came out as a lesbian and also revealed that she was bullied as a child. According to her, it was hard being picked on for being different. She added that she is very passionate about working with children to bring attention to the issue of bullying, particularly against LGBT people.

Griner is a married woman who has been married twice from 2016 to date (August 2022). She has been married to Cherelle Griner and Glory Johnson. Glory is her ex-wife and she is currently married to Cherelle. 

After a failed marriage with Glory, she tied the knot with Cherelle. She became engaged to Cherelle Watson in August 2018, and they married in June 2019, where Watson later changed her name to Cherelle Griner.

Griner and her wife, Cherelle Griner, met in college years before their romance began. They both attended Baylor University as undergraduates.

According to her LinkedIn page, Cherelle attended Baylor University between 2010 and 2014 and majored in political science and government while minoring in family and child studies. She graduated from the North Carolina Central University of Law in May 2022 and shared her accomplishment through an Instagram post.
