A woman from Homer perished in a car accident in Claiborne Parish on Tuesday afternoon.

Jordan Shelton, a 20-year-old student-athlete at Southern Arkansas University Tech, was recognized by Louisiana State Police.

Just before 4 p.m., a car accident occurred. About six miles west of Homer and nine miles north-northeast of Minden on Tuesday, March 22.

Shelton was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 534 near Union Grove Road in a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro when the car veered off the road and she overcorrected, according to authorities.

As a result, the Chevrolet crossed LA 534, raced into a ditch, and collided with a tree.

Shelton was brought to the Homer hospital, Claiborne Memorial Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
