According to the Dallas police, Lampkin was found lying on his back with a single gunshot wound at a rented residence, having been called there after receiving a report that he had stopped answering his phone.

Medical personnel arrived on the scene shortly thereafter to try to save Lampkin, but he died on the spot, Police said. Lampkin’s backpack, cellphone, and wallet were missing, according to reports.
