Dakota Louis Meyer is an American retired United States Marine.
He is the second-youngest person to receive the Medal of Honor while still alive. He is also the first US marine to be decorated in 38 years, and the third live laureate for either the Iraq or Afghanistan wars.
For his actions on September 8, 2009, during the Battle of Ganjgal, he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
Meyer joined in the United States Marine Corps immediately after graduating from Green County High School. He then went on to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island to complete basic training.
Meyer along with Bing West wrote a book titled, “Into the Fire: A Firsthand Account of the Most Extraordinary Battle in the Afghan War“, which was about the Ganjgal war.
