Bill Maher has never been married. However, he has been in a number of relationships.

In 2003, he began dating former Playboy Cyber Girl Coco Johnsen. At the end of the relationship in November 2004, Johnsen sued for Maher US$9 million for “pain and suffering”  and for alleged “insulting, humiliating and degrading racial comments”.

Johnsen’s lawsuit also stated that Maher promised to marry her and father her children, support her financially and buy a house in Beverly Hills. In response, Maher’s lawyers stated that he is a “confirmed bachelor and a very public one at that” who “never promised to marry Johnsen or to have children with her”.

On May 2, 2005, the lawsuit was dismissed.

He began dating author Karrine Steffans in 2005. Their relationship ended and he moved on to science educator and current Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe co-host Cara Santa Maria. Their relationship lasted from 2009 to 2011.

Since 2014, he has been in a relationship with Canadian singer-songwriter, Anjulie Persaud.
