How did Gene Shue die?

The American basketball player and coach, Gene Shue died on April 3, 2022.

Born Eugene William Shue, on December 18, 1931, in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States of America. He stood at about  6ft and 2inches and weighed 77kg.

His love for basketball began as a child but he only got to play in high school since his family did not have the means.

He attended Townson Catholic High school and was later recruited by the basketball team of the University of Maryland under the watch of Coach Bud Millikan.

He worked alongside the school to be able to pay his fees since he wasn’t offered a scholarship until senior year.

After graduation, he played for the Philadelphia Warriors in the 1954 NBA draft. He also played for New York Nicks, Detroit Pistons, and Baltimore Bullets.

His coaching career started with Baltimore Bullets. He also coached the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Second stints.

In 1968 and 1981, he won the NBA Coach of the year. He was married to Sandy Shue but the couple went their separate ways and before he died he was in a relationship with Patti Amis Massey.

He died at his residence in Marina Del Ray, California after battling melanoma, a type of skin cancer.
