John Earl Madden was a Pro Football Hall of Famer who went on to great acclaim as a broadcaster, as well as the brand name behind the “Madden” video game series.

Madden was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006 and was the winner of 16 Sports Emmy awards for his broadcasting. He worked for each of the networks carrying the NFL and was an analyst on 11 Super Bowl telecasts.
The president of Pro Football Hall of Fame said in statement:
“Few, if any, have had as great an impact on the sport of professional football on so many different levels as Coach Madden. He was first and foremost a coach. He was a coach on the field, a coach in the broadcast booth and a coach in life.”
Madden gained fame in a decade-long stint as the coach of Oakland Raiders, making it to seven AFC title games and winning the Super Bowl following the 1976 season.
He compiled a 103-32-7 regular-season record, and his .759 winning percentage was the best among NFL coaches with more than 100 games.
