Tommy Lee, the drummer for the heavy metal group Mötley Crüe, was born in the United States on October 3, 1962.
In addition to serving as the group’s longtime drummer, Lee established the rap metal group Methods of Mayhem and has worked on solo musical endeavors.
The only sibling Lee has, according to our research, is a sister named Athena who is also a drummer.
At the age of four, Lee acquired his first set of drumsticks, and at the age of fourteen, he received his first real drum equipment.
In order to pursue a career in music, he dropped out of high school, beginning with the L.A. club band Suite 19. John Bonham, Tommy Aldridge, Alex Van Halen, and Terry Bozzio are his principal drumming influences.
Along with Van Halen and Quiet Riot, Suite 19 from Lee’s band was a fixture on the Sunset Strip club scene in Los Angeles in the late 1970s.
He got to know the bassist Nikki Sixx, whose groups, Sister and later London, shared the same touring scene.
During this period, Lee discarded his last name and began going by the moniker “T-bone” because of his lean build and height of 6ft. When
London ultimately disbanded in 1981, and Lee and Sixx made the decision to start Mötley Crüe as a new band.
In 1981, Mötley Crüe released their debut album Too Fast for Love on their own independent label. Shortly after, Elektra Records chose to sign the group, and the record was reissued in 1982.
The group then started releasing a string of successful singles throughout the decade, making them one of the largest hard rock/metal bands of the era.
During his drum solos when he was performing, Lee employed a number of noteworthy gimmicks, such as having his entire set rotate and whirl or float over the audience.
At almost every performance, he was known for mooning the audience. On and offstage, Mötley Crüe was renowned for their hedonistic lifestyles, frequently abusing narcotics.
