Richard Engel (born September 16, 1973) is an American journalist and author who is the chief foreign correspondent for NBC News. Henry Engel, Richard’s son was born with Rett syndrome, a genetic condition that is exceptionally unusual in men; he died at the age of six in August 2022.

He is currently mourning him but his brother will be highlighted.

His older brother is David Engel.

He is a cardiologist at New York–Presbyterian Hospital. He is not in the news often like his junior brother.

However, his brother Engel was named NBC News Chief Foreign Correspondent in April 2008. He interviewed US President George W. Bush in May 2008, mostly about his speech to the Israeli Knesset. The conversation also addressed Iran’s empowerment as a result of the Iraq war and how to fight Iran’s influence in the area.

Engel was stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 2009, to cover the country’s August presidential election.

Engel covered the Egyptian revolution in 2011, at times using tear gas. He also covered the Libyan Civil War and was nearly assassinated in Benghazi.

The following year, he visited and reported on Mogadishu, Somalia, for a feature titled “The World’s Most Dangerous City,” for which he received a News and Documentary Emmy.
