Roviros Manthoulis, a Greek filmmaker, writer, and poet, has died in Paris.

Manthoulis was born in Komotini but grew up in Athens, where he studied political science at Pantion University.

In 1949, he published his first collection of poems. From 1949 to 1953, he studied cinema and television direction at Syracuse University, where he drew unwanted attention from authorities for writing an article against McCarthyism in the local paper.

Following the 1967 military coup, Manthoulis relocated to Paris, where he hosted the television show (A l’Affiche du Monde) from 1968-to 1971, which featured many celebrities of the time, including the Rolling Stones, Joan Baez, John Mayall, Johnny Hallyday, Mikis Theodorakis, and Melina Mercouri.
