Dominican-American professional baseball player, David Americo Ortiz Arias is a retired baseball player who featured as the Boston Red Sox’s designated hitter in Major League Baseball.

He was born in Saint Domingo, Dominican Republic, to Enrique and Angela Rosa. Ortiz’s father was a baseball player in the Dominican pro and semipro leagues for many years and was an inspiration to him.

He joined with the Seattle Mariners in 1992 and stayed with them until 1996, when he was traded to the Minnesota Twins. He was formerly known as ‘David Arias,’ but his name was later changed to ‘David Ortiz’.
