After just one month of launching, CNN+ will officially be shut down on April 30, 2022.
This decision was taken by CNN’s new parent company, Warner Bros Discovery. Warner Bros, CNN’s former parent company, merged with Discovery earlier in the month to form this new management, Warner Bros Discovery.
The streaming service was announced on July 19, 2021, with a plan for the service to be an around-the-clock service.
It would have eight to twelve hours of live programming, and in addition, an original series created just for the service and others culled from the network’s archives.
They also planned to add an “interactive community” that would allow viewers to interact with on-air talent.
CNN+ in its quest to make a mark, acquired top talent, including former NBC News Correspondent, Kasie Hunt, former NPR host Audie Cornish, and former Fox News anchor, Chris Wallace.
Is Chris Wallace leaving CNN? Is Chris Wallace still at CNN after CNN Plus shut down?
After dedicating 18 years to Fox News, Chris Wallace left for what seemed to be a fresh start in the world of streaming services.
His plans for a fresh start, however, were foiled with CNN+ officially shutting down.
During a live-streamed event hosted by the Common Ground Committee on Sunday night, while Wallace did not have any updates to share, he did say this,
“I’m in good shape, whether it’s CNN or someplace else.
Frankly, what I’m mostly concerned about right now, and very, is my team and hundreds of other people because there were 300 people, I think, that had jobs at CNN+.”
