Brenda Carlin, a television producer and the 36-year wife of comedian George Carlin, died of liver cancer complications in Santa Monica.

Carlin was a line producer on most of his early HBO performances, including “Carlin at Carnegie” and “Carlin on Campus,” and helped create his early career. In 1961, she married her husband.

During the 1970s and 1980s, Carlin worked in cable production, freelancing as an HBO talent coordinator on 17 comedy specials. She is credited with discovering comedians such as Garry Shandling, Paul Reubens, Harry Anderson, and Howie Mandel.

Carlin launched the Parkview Stage Co., a nonprofit equity waiver theater headquartered in the Park Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, in 1986 to help up-and-coming comedians.

She managed productions such as “Short Eyes” and “Joey.”
