Ayanna Soyini Pressley is a politician from Massachusetts who has been the U.S. representative for the 7th congressional district since 2019. This district encompasses the northern three-quarters of Boston, as well as the majority of Cambridge and sections of Milton, as well as the whole cities of Chelsea, Everett, Randolph, and Somerville.
Pressley was elected to the Boston City Council as an at-large member in 2010. She beat ten-term incumbent Mike Capuano in the Democratic primary in 2018 and ran unchallenged in the general election. Pressley was the first black woman elected to the Boston City Council and the state’s first black woman elected to Congress.
