Cory Anthony Booker (born April 27, 1969) is an American politician, attorney, and author who has been the junior United States Senator from New Jersey since 2013.

Booker is the first African-American U.S. senator from New Jersey and a member of the Democratic Party.

He served in the Newark Municipal Council for the Central Ward from 1998 to 2002 and was the 38th mayor of Newark from 2006 to 2013.

Booker grew up in Harrington Park, New Jersey, and was born in Washington, D.C. He graduated from Stanford University with a BA in 1991 and a master’s degree the following year.

On a Rhodes Scholarship, he attended Queen’s College, Oxford, before going on to Yale Law School.
