His agent, Joel Wolfe, confirmed the news in a press statement, saying Gambi passed away at his parents’ home in Southern California.

Gambi, who is the brother of New York Yankees star Jason Giambi, played in Major League Baseball for the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies, and Boston Red Sox, from 1998 through 2003.

His successful career and impressive baseball records and stats were nearly marred by his involvement in drugs.

In the early 2000s, he had issues with the law after he was arrested on drug charges. He was later released.

His brother Jason has also admitted to using steroids according to grand jury testimony that has been leaked to the press.
