Dwight Smith cause of death
The Atlanta Braves, with whom Smith played in 1995 and 1996 before retiring, announced Smith’s death.
Smith, a 1984 Cubs draft selection, spent the first five years of his major league career with Chicago, where he hit.285/.341/.433/112 wRC+.
Of course, he was a member of the 1989 NL East-winning Cubs squad, coming second in Rookie of the Year voting behind outfielder Jerome Walton.
The squad was my first true exposure to the Chicago Cubs, which I watched on WGN in the afternoons. It’s a really sad day.
