The third president of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki, passed away at the age of 90. He served as the President of Kenya from December 2002 to April 2013.

President Uhuru Kenyatta officially announced Mwai Kibaki’s death on Friday at State House, Nairobi. He has also ordered that flags be flown at half-mast from Friday, April 22, 2022, until the day of his burial.

He is survived by his four children; Judy Wanjiku, Jimmy Kibaki, David Kagai, and Tony Githinji as well as his grandchildren; Joy Jamie Marie, Rachael Muthoni, Mwai Junior, and Krystinaa Muthoni.

Wangui Mwai is the daughter of Mary Wambui. Wambui is alleged to be the second wife of former president Mwai Kibaki.

According to media reports in 2014, Wambui and Kibaki were married under customary law.

The Wambui family also states that Mwai married Wambui in 1972 under Kikuyu customary law. Wangui Mwai is alleged to be the child resulting from their union.
