Arthur N. Goldberg was born to a Jewish working-class family in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and grew up in adjacent McKeesport in the Pittsburgh metropolitan region.
He went to Virginia Tech and Miami University of Ohio for college before moving to Los Angeles in 1939 to make his dreams come true.
His debut album, Boogie #1, was recorded on a shoestring budget with only three musicians and sold 70,000 copies, making it a regional smash at the time.
