Bennie Thompson is an American congressman and a member of the Democratic Party. He was born on January 28, 1948, in Bolton, Mississippi to Will and Annie Thompson.

After he graduated high school, he enrolled at Tougaloo College where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science.

The former school teacher also has a Master of Science in education administration which was earned from Jackson State University in 1972. He is currently a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Mississippi’s 2nd district, a position he assumed in 1993.
