Wynn Alan Bruce, a climate activist, died on Earth Day after setting himself on fire outside the Supreme Court.

The climate activist died 24 hours after setting himself on fire on the steps of the Supreme Court.

Wynn Alan Bruce, a 50-year-old Colorado photojournalist, was critically injured in the incident.

Friday on a plaza in front of the court. He was airlifted to the hospital, where he passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022.

Wynn is a devout Buddhist. Alan Bruce appeared to predict his death in a Facebook post in 2021.

The Boulder man who set himself on fire in front of the United States Supreme Court on Earth Day appeared to be protesting climate change inaction.

Bruce’s actions, according to Kritee Kanko, a Zen Buddhist priest in Boulder, were a planned protest, she said on Twitter.

There are hints that Bruce had been considering this action for some time. On his Facebook page, Bruce posted in October 2020 about a free educational course about climate change.

On April 20, 2021, he commented on that post,  an apparent reference to the directory-assistance telephone number people used to call for information.

According to a publicly visible edit history, he then added a fire emoji to that comment in October 2021.

Bruce announced earlier this month that he would set himself on fire on April 2.
