John Edward Szeles was an American comedian and magician.

His career as a stand-up comedian spanned more than three decades, including two performances on Comedy Central in One Night Stand, Lounge Lizards, and Premium Blend, as well as his own special, Wrong on Every Level.

He went by the stage name The Amazing Johnathan and referred to himself as the Freddy Krueger of comedy.

He gained popularity on the mid-2000s show Mindfreak, where he would periodically execute unpleasant feats such as sucking on his hanging eyeball, slashing his wrists, and sticking a spike through his mouth.

He has been on Late Night with David Letterman multiple times, as well as a record 24 times on Fox’s Comic Strip Live.

He is the longest-running and most successful solo comic magician in US history.

John’s death was announced on Facebook by fellow comic Penny Wiggins. He was 63.
