Elizabeth Holmes was the founder and CEO of Theranos, a now-defunct health-tech business.

A federal grand jury charged Holmes and Ramesh  Balwani, Theranos’ former Chief Operating Officer (COO), in June 2018. The defendants were charged with nine charges of wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, with investors and patients as the intended victims.

Holmes was found guilty of scamming investors but not of defrauding patients when her trial finished in January 2022. She might be sentenced to up to 20 years in jail.

The date of her sentencing has been set for September 26, 2022.
