Wendy Rieger was a veteran American TV anchor, reporter, and former radio host who was born on April 18, 1956, in Norfolk, Virginia to an English school teacher mom from Louisiana and a retired pilot dad from Ohio.

She attended American University and began her career in radio, first at WAMU and later at WTOP.

She was a Longtime Washington anchor and reporter who worked at NBC4. She worked at NBC4 Washington for more than 30 years.

Rieger retired from NBC4 in December 2021.

Wendy Rieger died in the early hours of Saturday, April 16, 2022, after a battle with Glioblastoma.

In 2020, Rieger underwent open-heart surgery to repair a defect in a mitral valve.

Wendy was diagnosed with a brain tumor in May 2021 and underwent surgery to have it removed before retiring in December.

Her cancer returned aggressively several weeks ago, and she died holding the hand of her husband, Dan.

She is survived by her husband Dan, several brothers, nieces, and nephews.
