Vicente Fernández, a well-known Mexican musician and actor, died on Sunday after being ill for months following a fall at his property outside Guadalajara.

His career started when he was 14 years old and won a singing contest in a restaurant in Guadalajara, México.

He recorded more than 50 albums that sold over 75 million copies. He also appeared in several films.

He is the recipient of eight Grammy Awards and has a spot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

His death was confirmed on his social media sites, where his family had been updating followers on his status and putting to rest relatively close speculations of his death. He had undergone surgery for a cervical spine injury and had spent months in critical care, requiring respiratory support from a ventilator. He was temporarily moved out of intensive care but returned at the end of November after experiencing breathing difficulties. His family had revealed the night before his death that his health was severe.

On Sunday, a message read, “Rest in Peace, Mr Vicente Fernández.” “We apologize to notify you that he passed on Sunday, December 12th at 6:15 a.m.”

“It was an honor and a tremendous joy to share a fantastic musical career with everyone and to give all for his audience.” “Thank you for continuing to applaud and sing,” the letter said.

However, thousands gathered at a funeral home in North Dallas to bid farewell to Mexican artist Vicente Férnandez, who was hailed as the “King of Ranchera Music.” Fernandez died at the age of 81.

Those in attendance remembered the life and work of “El Charro de Huentitán” during a Mass conducted over by Monsignor Alfredo Garca.
